Llandudno and the surrounding area
With its unique combination of Victorian style and Edwardian elegance, Llandudno is the largest holiday resort in Wales. Dubbed the Queen of Welsh resorts, it stands on a peninsula jutting out into the Irish Sea, between the twin headlands of the Great Orme and Little Orme. Built for King Edward I between 1283-87, Master James of St George's design at Conwy remains one of the most outstanding achievements of medieval military architecture. The distinctive elongated shape, with its two barbicans, eight massive towers and great bow-shaped hall, was perhaps determined by the narrow rocky outcrop on which the castle stands. Maesdu Golf Club is a well established 18 hole course founded in 1915. It is situated just one mile from the North Wales seaside town of Llandudno. King Edward intended this castle to be a royal residence and seat of government for north Wales. The castle's symbolic status was emphasized when Edward made sure that his son, the first English Prince of Wales, was born here in 1284. In 1969, the castle gained worldwide fame as the setting for the investiture of HRH Prince Charles as Prince of Wales. World Heritage Site.

Plas Newydd, now a National Trust property but still home to the Marquess of Anglesey, is an 18th century mansion set in grounds on the banks of the Menai Strait. There are woodland walks and access to a jetty for boat trips along the Strait.

Beaumaris Castle on the Island of Anglesey is the great unfinished masterpiece. It was built as one of the 'iron ring' of North Wales castles by the English monarch Edward I, to stamp his authority on the Welsh. But it was never finished money and supplies ran out before the fortifications reached their full height.
